Wraithlord tactics

Wraithlords used to be one of the cheesiest units in 40k, back when Eldar used to be one of the cheesiest armies around. Gone are those days but there are still a myriad of ways to get the most out of your Wraithlords and I wanted to talk about some of them.

Keeping it real with Wraithguard; Wraithguard tactics/uses:

Everyone has an opinion on the usefulness of Wraithguard. Are they good? Are they terribad? As far as I am concerned, I think they are amazing and I don't feel comfortable without at least one unit in my list somewhere... This post is to talk about Wraithguard, some basic tactics and why I think they are so amazing.

Taking my rules lawyering to the next level...

Just a quick update, I just found out that I got admitted to the law school of my choice and will most likely be busy with that for the next, I don't know, three years! In the meantime, I will try to post tacticas, battle reports and to keep up with the Eldar release hype and so on.

What once was good but now is bad?

It may not be a well known fact but back in 3rd edition I played quite a variety of armies, from Tyranids to CSM: Thousand Sons to Eldar. Sadly, as new versions of the armies/new rules came out, some of my other armies became less viable in the competitive scene and ended up on the shelves of perpetual dust but I wanted to pay homage to some of these armies. Do any of you have some armies you absolutely love but hate what GW has done with them?

Interview for The 11th Company 40k podcast!

Last week I was interviewed by Pat from The 11th Company 40k podcast crew. They just posted the episode with my interview in it yesterday so I wanted to drop a line about it.

1111.2 miles later... 'Ard Boyz final results:

This past weekend I drove up to the Sacramento area (and did a bit of site seeing on the way with my wife) and got to play in the 'Ard Boyz finals. It went pretty good all things considered so without a further adieu, here is a basic account of the tournament:

'Ard Boyz Finals or bust!?

So it looks like I may end up being able to make the trip to Sacramento for the 'Ard Boyz finals. I now have an idea what the scenarios will be but not what the competition will be like. With a solid/balanced Eldar list maybe it wont matter, I wanted to take a moment to get feedback on the list I'm thinking of bringing as well as briefly touch upon list balance.

Battle Report: Eldar VS George Mason's lean mean Blood Angels grillin' machine!!

A little while ago I had the privilege of playing George Mason who won best overall and best Blood Angels at the Throne of Skulls tournament. This is that game.

'Ard Boyz semi finals game rundown:

So as I promised, here are a brief set of Battle Reports from the 'Ard Boyz semi finals (sorry about the lack of pictures, didn't really have time to take any).

So sorry for the delays and lack of posts but a bit of good news! ('ard boyz semi finals related)

Once again, sorry for the recent lack of posts/content-I've been really busy with getting ready for the LSAT/School and future law school (so I can be a rules lawyer). I do, however still have a lot in the works and a pretty awesome update regarding my performance in the 'ard boyz semi finals that just happened yesterday.

My Throne of Skulls Eldar army:

After getting a few emails about my army that I took to the Throne of Skulls tournament, I decided to post some pictures of individual units/models and provide the fluff/army list I used.

Throne of Skulls Las Vegas 2011 tournament:

Sorry that my posts have been, well, non existent but I've been really busy with real life and getting ready for the Throne of Skulls tournament and now that it is over, I wanted to drop a few lines about it and how I did:

Battle Report: 2000 tournament with Shining Spears and Dark Reapers.

Continuing my theme of using certain "sub-par" units, I took an army to a local tournament with Dark Reapers and Shining Spears in it to see how the units would do. This is the battle report of how I did.

Sprue Posse mini GT battle reports PART 3:

My army in all of its glory.

This is the third and final part of my Sprue Posse mini GT battle reports. This will have my final game as well as commentary on the army, my games and the tournament in general.

Sprue Posse mini GT battle reports PART 2:

This is the second part of my Sprue Posse mini GT battle report series that will have my next 2 games.

Sprue Posse mini GT battle reports PART 1:

This is a long over-due post of my battlereports from the Sprue Posse mini GT that I played in with my Dual-Autarch Jetbike Eldar (on 1/28/11). It was 5 games over 2 days and had some really good players!

Off beat Tyranid battle report:

Tyranids were my first army so I thought I'd bust them out for old time's sake with a good friend of mine. This is a 2000 point game with a silly army list that focuses on large units of Hormagaunts/Gargoyles, Tyranid Warriors and Lictors...

Games Workshop's "iron curtain"

Game's Workshop's rumor policy

Lately, I've been thinking about Games Workshop and how they have changed over the years as a company. I remember when they used to allow for a free flow of information to its fans. I remember when their business practices were a reflection of what miniature wargamers wanted...

Reaping the whirlwind: 1850 tournament BR/Results.

I played in an 1850 tournament this weekend using the Dark Reaper themed list I mentioned in my last blog post. The army was fun to use and this post is a rundown of how it did, what I learned and some mini battle reports.

Unconventional warfare: forget the meta game!

One thing that the Eldar army does rather well these days is mess with the meta game. This post will talk a bit about that as well as showcase 2 lists I put together that I will try out in tournaments that demonstrate an unconventional approach to building an Eldar list.

Mental Exercise: Shining Spears Battle Report

This post covers a sort of  "mental exercise" with me using units I have not used very often in an army list that might not be that great for the purposes of a fun and hopefully educational battle report.

GW 1500 mini GT:

This past weekend I played in a 1500 "GT" style tournament thrown at a local GW store. I originally wanted to take the list I posted here but seeing as how the requirement to play was to have fully painted and based models, I was forced to bring the only painted Eldar models I had.

Thursday, February 3, 2011

Fire Prisms:

Ah the Fire Prism, the glorified laser pointer of the Eldar codex! Since this is actually a pretty iconic tank for the Eldar that finds its home in many lists, I wanted to touch on what makes this tank so good and what some of the best uses for it are.

Classic Iyanden:

After trying to speed paint some of my Jetbike Eldar for a tournament tomorrow, I realized that I probably won't get them done on time so while at work I was thinking about bringing a more fluffy, fun, Iyanden themed army (that I only need a few more models to paint).

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Shining Spears:

The Eldar codex has some "good" and "bad" choices for each force org slot, especially with the advent of 5th edition, and Shining Spears are thought to have been one of those poor or sub-optimal choices. Well, someone had to take a unit, compare it with something else and come to the conclusion that it was a poor or sub-optimal choice in the first place and I would argue that given the proper battlefield role and use, Shining Spears can be a great choice and addition to the right army, namely, my army!

Sprue Posse outcome and overview:

So now that the dust has settled from the Sprue Posse tournament I think doing as well as I did and being the only Eldar player there deserves some measure of celebration. I ended up with a 3-1-1 score and was in a 4 way tie for 3rd  but after tie-breakers I got nudged into 5th place. The competition was fierce as several people with top 10 rankings from http://www.rankingshq.com/  were there amongst other internet big shots from Dakka Dakka.

Developing your hobby:

There is a lot of talk on the net and in the gaming community in general as to player types, army types/tiers, meta game and so forth but where does this all fit in within your identity and evolution as a hobbyist?

Army list: Final draft for the Sprue Posse GT!

So after a bunch of practice games with various lists and a glance over the available models I have, this is the current incarnation of my army at 2000 points:

Training exercise, another Battle Report:

My friends and I are planning on going to the Sprue Posse grand prix tournament (http://www.chaoswins.com/p/sprue-posse-grand-prix.html) and I decided to get a practice game in with one of them. This game was between an experimental Jetbike list vs my friend's experimental IG list. To clarify, both Chris and I were trying new things so we were playing a list and making choices we might not normally try just to see what would happen.
