Feast of Blades: The end and some gaming philosophy

With the final day of gaming completed and a pleasant night out on the town in Denver with my wife, I think the trip out to Feast was a worthwhile adventure in gaming, fun and introspection. This post will cover more of how I did, how I felt with Eldar/Tau and the meta along with some philosophical food for thought.

So I'm currently sitting at the terminal of John Wayne Airport in Orange County awaiting my (delayed) flight to get to Denver Colorado for this year's Feast of Blades tournament. I thought I'd take advantage of the free Wi-Fi to post a bit about my tournament army/aspirations and what rock I've been hiding under!

I took a scaled down version of my Golden Throne GT army list to a local RT to see how it would do against various opponents/armies and was pleasantly surprised with how amazing Eldar with Tau allies can be. This post will cover battle reports of my 3 games.

Golden Throne GT shout out:

This post is mainly a shout-out to help publicize the Golden Throne GT coming to Pleasanton CA August 2-4 (it's in northern CA). Eldar Psyker Cards for Keeping track of your powers (updated with more Warlock options):

There are so many psychic powers available in so many combinations for our units that it can be a pain keeping track of what Psyker has what powers. Therefore, I put together some "Psyker Cards" that anyone can print out and laminate to keep track of who has what powers! Check them out and let me know what you think.

winds of change part 3: Transitioning Jetbike Eldar into 6th with the new codex

Traditionally, Jetbike Eldar have always been sort of weak on the offense, fragile, but very sneaky and maneuverable. With 6th Edition and the new Codex, a lot has changed in that they are even more maneuverable and became quite resilient while packing quite a punch.

Keeping the Crimson Hunter in the air:

I've been exploring ways to use the Crimson Hunter and while it has a lot of firepower, essentially, it is just such a fragile flyer with AV10 and no way to improve the Jink save. So how can we build our army to make sure the Crimson Hunter keeps hunting throughout the game? Here are some ideas...

Building me some Wraithguard:

So after seeing how awesome Wraithguard can be in a recent tournament (they gave me quite some grief in one of my games as I had to play against a unit), I can't wait to put together a few units to throw down with a classic Iyanden type army in a future tournament. The new models are amazing, though, my OCD is driving me crazy regarding how some of the pieces look. This post will basically cover how the new Wraithguard look, especially compared to the old Wraithgaurd and how one might want to use them in an army.

1500 Eldar battle report:

I just played in a 1500 point tournament with the new eldar and I have to say that I learned a lot of valuable lessons from the new Codex. This post will cover my battle reports of all three games while providing a general overview of lessons and insights that I hope will help every Eldar player who reads this.

An open letter to my Dark Eldar playing friends:

With the changes to 6th, the introduction of a lot of new codices, Dark Eldar can have a sort of tough time these days. This is a sort of open letter to any and all Dark Eldar players with some advice on how to improve your game/list building in an increasingly hostile environment...

Any army list for an upcoming 1500 tournament:

With the new codex out, I see a lot of potential army lists but I am not settled on what a good list will generally look like. Ultimately, we will need to play a lot of games and figure out what works and doesn't work for us as Eldar players so this post is going to explore an army list using our new Vehicles and Flyers.

Winds of change part 2: Transitioning foot Eldar into 6th with the new codex

This is part two of my four part series covering different types of Eldar armies and how they will transition into 6th with the new Codex. This post will cover an Eldar army comprised entirely of models on foot, affectionately called "Footdar."

The rise of Iyanden:

GW debuted their Iyanden suplemental codex today and I have to admit, I've never been so excited to bust out my Wraithguard! The video gave us some insight into how the army will play so I'll discuss that in this post and go on about how I foresee an Iyanden style army to be built/played.

Winds of change: How we can expect traditional Eldar armies to transition into their new codex

With a new Codex out, everything is up in the air... so how will we build our armies with the new dex? I will start working on a series of posts to cover the different ways Eldar used to be played and how they will likely transition into the new Codex.  I will primarily focus on Mech, Foot, Jetbike Eldar and finish off the series discussing hybrid armies that combined a little bit of everything. I'll go over each of these play styles, discuss what has changed and throw down a sample list of what I think might be a good start for that type of army. This first post will discuss Mechdar.

The sky is not falling, Eldar will not be bad in the new codex...(plus update with pictures from the codex inside)

As I read the leaked codex info and see people's commentary, I am so perplexed that suddenly everyone is an expert on Eldar, the Meta and game balance. The internet is wrong people, Eldar will not suck in the upcoming release and I'll tell you why!

More rumors from people who say they saw the codex:

So moving on from the last rumor "troll" post, there are some more people posting things they claim to have seen in the new Eldar codex, and these seem pretty legit this time around as well...

Insight on Eldar Vehicles, vehicle upgrades, special wargear and their points costs:

Floating around the web is one of the preview pages for the Eldar Codex  that has the available vehicle options and wargear options with their points costs. I'll post that picture here and we can guess what it means for our Eldar vehicles and characters.

Codex answers or just trolling? Most likely Troll.

Apparently someone over on 4chan has been answering questions as if they have the Eldar codex in hand, here are some of the things said...Grab your salt-shaker and dig in!

Spirit Chamber editorial: Speculations and concerns about the new Eldar codex...

With just about a week ft for the new Eldar Codex to come out and a lot of the info already available floating around, there are still a few unanswered questions and concerns I have about the Eldar... specifically how prevalent Warlocks will be and how accessible Fortune and other Staple Eldar powers will be or how the lack of access to these things will affect Eldar going forward?

GW misposted FAQ? Some insight into Monofilament weapons and Support Weapon Batteries...

GW has randomly posted an Eldar FAQ update for June, perhaps in anticipation of errors already in the Codex? Regardless, it refers to the weapon profile of the Shadow Weaver which will shed some light onto Warp Spider and Night Spinner weapons as well as Support Weapon Batteries.

Fire Dragon rules rumors (now updated with actual codex entry picture):

So there are rules for the Fire Dragon unit entry floating around on the internet, here is what they are apparently going to be like in the new codex...Now this post is updated with the actual picture of the unit entry from the codex!

Eldar Pre-Orders are up, with some rule snippets as well...

Eldar are now up for pre-order, so now we can finally tell GW to shut up and take our money, right?

Thursday, May 23, 2013

And yet another Eldar codex update!

Some more Eldar rumors have come out, this time the source is an alleged info sheet sent to GW stores...Apply salt as needed but they definitely give us food for thought and seem reasonable.

Eldar Rumors: Overview

It seems as though short of someone going through the codex itself and answering questions, we pretty much have all the info we can glean about the Eldar. So putting it all together, what do we have to work with? This post will be an overview of the current Eldar rumors and what we can logically extrapolate form them.

Nafta (and possibly BOLS) R.I.P. ?

It appears that Faeit 212 (and possibly BOLS) has been taken down due to DCMA orders. It's a real shame because I loved glancing over the blog hunting for the latest rumors...

With that said, below you will find a pretty complete breakdown of the new Chaos Demon codex coming out along with some comments from me, enjoy!

A "change" of pace: CSM codex and Thousand Sons at a glance: Part 1

Now that I've had time to look over the new CSM book and play some games with the army, I wanted to post some thoughts on it as a whole as well as what units I think are clear winners and losers and how I see Thousand Son armies being built in 6th. This is going to be part 1 of a series that deals with Thousand sons and will primarily be my introduction on what I think of how the CSM book handled Tzeench/Thousand Sons in general.

Eldar unit overview/analysis (Heavy Support)

Having gone over the rest of the army, this is my review and analysis of Eldar Heavy Support choices. Since some units have gotten much better, while others have stayed the same or gotten worse, I'll give a brief overview of how the individual entries transitioned into 6th with a little conclusion on each of them.
